Teacher’s Day: A Profession of Commitment and Dedication
“La educación no cambia el mundo, cambia a las personas que van a cambiar el mundo.”
“Education does not change the world. Education changes people. People change the world.”
—Paulo Freire—
From the very beginning of their careers, teachers play an important role in people’s lives. Their work goes far beyond simply sharing knowledge; they also guide students throughout their learning journey, helping them discover their abilities and develop their own understanding of the world.
In 1917, in recognition of the work carried out by teachers in Mexico, legislators Benito Ramírez and Enrique Viesca proposed to then-President Venustiano Carranza that May 15 be established as a day to honor educators. In 1918, through a presidential decree, this commemoration officially became Teacher’s Day in Mexico.
Since then, every May 15, Mexico recognizes the work, effort, and dedication of teachers, people whose vocation is teaching and who continue preparing themselves day after day, always looking for ways to improve and provide engaging classes that keep their students motivated.
Constant changes in educational methods and the use of new technological tools are just some of the challenges teachers must face and adapt to. At the same time, they continue searching for effective ways to share knowledge, help students learn, and maintain their interest and motivation.
This day not only allows us to recognize the work of teachers, but also invites us to reflect on the importance of education and the vital role it plays in society. We would like to thank all the teachers who wake up every day with enthusiasm and motivation to meet their students and who patiently share their knowledge, always striving to find the best ways to help them learn.
We would also like to thank all the teachers who are part of the Na’atik community for their daily effort and their constant pursuit of knowledge in order to share it with our students. Thank you for creating an environment where students not only learn, but also have fun and build friendships and a sense of community. Happy Teacher’s Day!
