Na’atik is a non profit organization, and your program fees help us to offer subsidized language programs for our local students, allowing them access to educational and careers opportunities that would otherwise be denied to them.   • Pedro, Spanish Teacher

    Pedro is a co-founder of Na’atik and began teaching Spanish with Na’atik in 2011. He was a social studies teacher and administrator at a local high school and retired in 2014. He is a native of Carrillo Puerto and loves history, reading, traveling, talking about politics, and learning about different cultures.

  • Evelyn, Spanish Teacher

    Hi, my name is Evelyn and I am from Chetumal, the capital city of Quintana Roo. I am a qualified teacher with more than four years experience teaching languages. I am passionate about Mexican culture. I enjoy both technology and crafts and also folkloric dance.

  • César, Spanish Teacher

    Hi I am César, although you can call me profe if you like! I was born near Mérida in the state of Yucatán and grew up in Carrillo. I studied education in the Universidad de Quintana Roo and have more than 10 years experience teaching languages. I specialize in translation and language related to technology or music. I play various musical instruments and like talking about the history and culture of México as well as movies and science fiction.

    Licey was born in Carrillo Puerto, where she still lives. She studied Tourism and Alternative Tourism at the Universidad de Quintana Roo and is currently studying a second degree in Maya-Spanish Bilingual Basic Education: Historical and Cultural Heritage of Mexico. She loves gardening, painting on canvas, traveling, yoga, learning new things and music, especially trova and rock.

    Hi, I am Naila, or Nai, and I am from Felipe Carrillo Puerto. I studied English Language at the University of Quintana Roo. I speak Spanish, Maya, English, and knows French at a basic level. I have more than 3 years teaching experience. I like traveling and learning from other cultures.

    Rita grew up here in Carrillo and studied English at the University of Quintana Roo. Rita has family roots in the local Maya community and is interested in her culture and history. Having worked in tourism she is now focused on a career as a teacher. She likes working with children and helping them harness their creativity to help them learn. She loves nature, history, listening to music and spending time with family, especially her cousins.

    Angel has more than 18 years of experience teaching both Spanish and English. He enjoys judging spelling bees and creating teaching resources.

  • Francisco, Spanish Teacher

    Franciso is from Cancun in the North of Cancun, and originally studied Biotechnology Engineering before moving into language teaching. He is an avid reader who also enjoys watching films and tv series as well as playing video games and listening to music in his spare time. He enjoys cooking, expecially pasta dishes.

  • Isaac, Maya Teacher

    Isaac is from the May community of Pencuyut Tekax, and currently lives in Kanasin, Yucatán. He has ben teaching Maya for over 15 years and is passionate about sharing both his language and culture. He is alo passionate about Maya cuisine, with escabeche, piíb, panuchos and salbutes being particular favorites. He enjoys volleyball, baseball, reading and creating Maya teaching materials.

    My name is Rosendo and I am from the state of Campeche. I have degrees in Primary Education and Educatonal Curiculum Developent as well as a doctorate in Educational Technology Innovation. I have almost 30 years of teaching experience and am passionate about sharing my mother tongue of Maya. I enjoy tv series and films with uplifting messages and taking part in the training and assement of teachers.

    Hola! My name Gladys Wigelmy, although you can call Wigelmy. I am from the Maya community y of Xaya, Tekax, Yucatán. I graduated from the Maya University of Quintana Roó, with a Bachelor's Degree in Language and Culture. I have been teaching for 11 years, and am bilingual (Spanish and Maya). I enjoy cross-stitch, dancing the Yucatecan Jarana and travelling to places of cultural interest.

    Each booking subsidizes our English language program for the local community, so every booking makes education more affordable for our local students.

  • All Spanish packages contain a video presentation in addition to the class hours.

    Packages of 10 hours or more also contain a PDF coursebook for your level and one webinar class.

    Packages of 20 hours contain an additional webinar.

    We are always working on additional content for our Spanish and Maya courses, so check back in the future to see what is new!

  • Na'atik offers classes for students who want one on one attention, or to groups, whether friends or family.

    Please note Na'atik does not have groups which can be joined by individual students.

  • Our teachers deliver classes using Microsoft Teams. It is not neccesary to sign up or download the program to join classes. You can join straight from your preferred internet browser. Full instructions will be provided to students prior to their first class.

  • In cases where you cannot attend your classes, we ask that you inform the program coordinator as soon as possible.

    If you provide over 24 hours notice we will be able to rearrange your class for another time. Classes canceled with less than 24 hours cannot be rearranged.

    If you have trouble accessing your class please contact the program coordinator immediately. Your teacher will always wait 15 minutes after the start time of the class in case of technical problems or lateness.

  • We know life can be busy, so if you need to pause your classes, we can accommodate breaks of up to 6 months.

    If you do not wish to continue with your classes you can cancel your package at any time and receive a refund of 60% of the value of your unused classes.

  • The primary factor in your teacher assignment will be availabilty for the hours that best suit you. We also take into consideration your answers to our placement test, which gives us an idea of your current level and language goals.

    All of our teachers are trained to work with students of all levels, ages and learning styles.

  • Most of our teachers are based in the beautiful Mexican state of Quintana Roo. This is where Na'atik is located, in the heart of the Zona Maya in Felipe Carrillo Puerto. Quintana Roo uses Eastern Standard Time year round (no daylight savings time) which is UTC -5.

    Some of our teachers are located in the state of Yucatán, which uses Central Standard Time (UTC -6) for the whole year.

    If you are unsure at all about what time your class is, especially if the time changes in your time zone for daylight saving or other reasons, please check with your teacher beforehand.

    We do our best to accommodate students from any time zone, and have students from all over the world.

  • Our Maya teachers generally teach using Spanish, and a good level of Spanish is recommend for those classes. We do have some Maya teachers who have a good level of English, however availability may be limited. Please let us know your level of Spanish when inquiring about Maya classes.

  • Your classes can be arranged to coincide with your availability and your time zone. Our teachers have different availability depending on their time zone and availability.

    The day, time and frequency of your classes can arranged to suit your needs, with classes of one or two hours available. Some students take one class per week, while others opt to have more classes.

  • We do not have a set start date. You can begin classes with Na'atik whenever you are ready.

  • Our prefered payment method is through PayPal, however if this is not possible for you we can accept payment by direct bank transfer. Our team are available to help set up payment if you have any difficulties.

  • Na'atik can provide you with a certificate showing the number of hours studied with us.

  • Our Spanish curriculum is based on the rules of grammar laid out by the Spanish Royal Academy, the institution responsible for regularizing the use of language throughout the Spanish speaking world. However we also use vocabulary and idioms specific to Mexico and the Yucatán peninsula.

    Our Maya classes teach modern Yucatec Maya, the mostly widely spoken Mayan dialect, which is used thoughout the peninsula.
