Growing the Future: Na’atik’s Youngest Students Learn to Care for Plant Life

Children’s natural curiosity is one of the most powerful tools for learning — and this month, Na’atik’s youngest students took part in a fun and meaningful hands-on activity that connected them with nature right from the roots.

Super frijolitos or Super Little Beans was one of the names of the teams

Led by teacher Priscila and librarian Sophie, the children learned how to germinate beans using simple materials like cotton, plastic cups, and a bit of water. Over the course of several days, they observed the growth process from seed to sprout, learning how patience, care, and consistency are all part of helping living things grow.

This activity was more than just a science lesson. It was also a way to introduce the idea that plants need love and responsibility, just like people do. The students talked about what plants give us — food, oxygen, shade, and beauty — and how important it is to treat them with respect and gratitude.

By watching their tiny bean plants grow a little more each day, the students also learned that even small actions, like watering a seed, can lead to something wonderful.

At Na’atik, we believe that encouraging environmental awareness from a young age helps build more conscious, compassionate, and informed global citizens. And sometimes, all it takes is a bean, a cup of water, and a little light.
