Clase de Primaria 4B's Favorite Books

At Na’atik we believe learning languages is easier when you have the opportunity to use the skills you are studying in a meaningful way. One of the best ways our local English students can practice outside of the classroom is by reading. We encourage all the students to take an active interest in reading books of an appropriate level in English, and in normal times provide a well-stocked library with books for all ages and skill levels. In anticipation of reopening our library for the students next year, we asked some of them to write about their favorite book they have read while at Na’atik.

As you can see, Smile by Reine Telgemeir is a real hit with the children! This graphic novel touches on themes that resonate across language and culture, such as the struggle to fit in and being singled out by your appearance. Research suggests that relatable fiction books are among the most useful for language acquisition, and graphic novels help with new or unfamiliar vocabulary.

As part of our library reopening project, we are looking to expand the number of engaging and educational books available for students. If you have any recommendations for fiction or nonfiction books you feel our students would enjoy, please let us know at library@naatikmexico.org.

If you'd like to donate to our 2022 Library Reopening Fundraiser, click here. We need to raise $8000 to continue all of our library projects in the 2022-23 school year.
